🕵️ DEEP INVESTIGATIONS
🇺🇸 Maine’s lobster fishery directly responsible for killing endangered right whales—over 86% of observed right whales bore scars from entanglements.
🇨🇳 Chinese fishing company owned by billionaire, accused of environmental and labour abuses.

🌊 UN Ocean Treaty a year later – only two countries have ratified it.
The UN Ocean Treaty technically signed over one year ago has only been ratified by two countries, Palau and Chile. We remind you that the treaty was signed because no fishing regulations were negotiated.
💪 OCEAN CAMPAIGNS
🍲 Petition asks Wagamama to stop serving farmed salmon.
About 2 million tonnes of wild fish are caught annually to feed Norwegian farmed salmon. Floating factories are plundering the ocean to pulverize wild fish to turn them into salmon feed. Several organizations are urging brands like Wagamama to ditch farmed salmon from their menus.
If passed, this Act would establish prohibitions on capturing, importing, exporting, or breeding of orcas, beluga whales, false killer whales, or pilot whales for the purpose of public display in the US.
80% of the world’s sewage is dumped untreated into our oceans, suffocating marine ecosystems and causing the death of countless marine animals, seagrass beds, and coral reefs. We must stop this shit!
French president Emmanuel Macron had declared 2024 the “Year of the Sea”, but he seems happy to let his country buy this incredibly destructive vessel. The irony? French subsidies will help with the purchase of a vessel with a catch capacity that exceeds European quotas, so France will most likely send it to plunder the oceans of developing countries that have more lax environmental rules. A new form of colonialism?
🤯 Crazy ocean fact we learnt this month: illegal and unregulated fishing constitutes almost 28% of world’s yearly catch.
